The sole engine option is the venerable Duratec 3.0L V6. It is available on the front-wheel drive version with a six-speed automatic, or on the all-wheel-drive models with a continuously variable transmission. The all-wheel-drive system provides improved traction and handling security, while the CVT provides better acceleration than the conventional automatic.
The Five Hundred may not be the flashiest model in Ford's lineup, but that's exactly where Ford meant to be. Intended to appeal to customers who used to buy the Taurus, the Five Hundred was designed with clean lines and generous interior capacity. The engine is rated at 203 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque, and it delivers reasonable fuel economy, especially within its class.
The base SEL Five Hundred carries an impressive list of standard equipment including 17-inch aluminum wheels, six-way power front seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power locks and windows, remote keyless entry, and anti-lock brakes.
The Interior Convenience Package includes popular add-ons such as fog lamps, six-disc CD changer, and dual-zone climate control. The Interior Power Package upgrades the driver seat, as well as adding power-adjustable pedals. Satellite radio is optional, as is a power moonroof and DVD entertainment system for $895. Navigation is optional for $1,995.
The Limited Five Hundred improves upon the SEL's standard equipment with 18-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, heated leather power seats, an upgraded stereo with six-disc CD changer and a subwoofer. The Limited Convenience Package includes adjustable pedals, a universal garage door opener, and a reverse sensing system for $475.
